Visiting Assistant Professor – Latin American Literary & Cultural Studies

About the role

Stony Brook University’s Department of Hispanic Languages and Literature seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor to join the faculty for one academic year starting Fall 2024. The position focuses on Latin American literary and cultural studies and involves teaching, research, and service within the department.

Key responsibilities

• Teach two courses each semester, including a graduate seminar and undergraduate classes covering Latin American literature and culture.
• Develop and submit syllabi for both undergraduate and PhD‑level courses.
• Maintain an active research agenda with publications in the field.
• Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and academic service activities.

Required profile

• PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Hispanic Languages and Literature or a closely related discipline, completed by the start date.
• Demonstrated strong research record in Latin American literary or cultural studies.
• Proven teaching experience at the university level, capable of handling graduate and undergraduate courses.
• Native or near‑native proficiency in English and Spanish; Portuguese proficiency is a plus.
