Vice President of Operations – Fleet Management

About the role

AFC Transport is looking for a results‑driven Vice President of Operations to own the end‑to‑end performance of its refrigerated and flatbed fleet. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will set operational strategy, drive KPI execution, and ensure accountability across fleet managers and driver support teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and hold fleet managers and driver support personnel accountable.
• Set performance expectations, operating cadences, and clear accountability standards.
• Own hiring, onboarding, performance management, and corrective‑action processes.
• Drive utilization, on‑time performance, revenue per mile, margin per mile, and cost efficiency.
• Monitor daily KPIs and translate data into rapid operational actions.
• Build and maintain SOPs to support scalable growth.
• Manage after‑hours exceptions to ensure continuous operations.
• Partner with HR on driver performance and retention initiatives.
• Ensure full DOT compliance and oversee safety, incident response, and fleet readiness.
• Report operational performance, risks, and improvement plans to the CEO and executive team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of experience in asset‑based trucking or fleet operations, including at least 3 years in a people‑leadership role.
• Proven ability to lead operational teams through metrics and KPI‑driven accountability.
• Strong working knowledge of DOT compliance and fleet safety practices.
• Experience managing a reefer or flatbed fleet.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Transportation Management System (TMS) platforms.
• Experience using ELD/GPS telematics tools.
• Competence with standard business software (e.g., Microsoft Office, reporting tools).
