Utility Maintenance Worker I – Entry Level

About the role

The City of Wharton is seeking an entry‑level Utility Maintenance Worker I to support water and wastewater operations. This position involves semi‑skilled and unskilled tasks related to construction, maintenance, and repair of water and sewer infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Perform water and wastewater construction and maintenance activities, including locating water and sewer lines.
• Repair and maintain water and sewer lines, fix leaks, install taps, and rod sewer lines.
• Assist in the repair of water towers, storage tanks, lift station machinery, and transfer pumps.
• Change chlorine bottles and fill fluoride barrels at distribution sites.
• Support street maintenance by patching potholes.
• Obtain tools and supplies needed for utility operations.

Required profile

• Entry‑level candidate able to work under general supervision from senior utilities staff.
• Willingness to perform both semi‑skilled and unskilled tasks in a municipal utility environment.
