Utilities Area Manager

About the role

The Utilities Area Manager is responsible for managing the site’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program and maintenance activities for the ammonia refrigeration system and wastewater treatment plant, ensuring regulatory compliance, mechanical integrity and safe operation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and continuously improve the site’s PSM program, coordinating PHA, MOC, Mechanical Integrity, operating procedures, PSI, incident investigations, audits, training, and PSSR.
• Oversee maintenance activities for ammonia refrigeration and wastewater treatment to meet regulatory and mechanical integrity requirements.
• Support emergency preparedness for ammonia incidents and ensure permit compliance, inspections, and regulatory reporting.
• Coach and mentor plant personnel, manage maintenance plans, and coordinate with the Reliability Manager.
• Assist capital expenditure planning and develop economic business cases as needed.

Required profile

• BS degree in Engineering preferred; technical degree required.
• At least 3 years of utilities experience with strong cross‑functional problem‑solving and multi‑tasking abilities.
• Detail‑oriented, schedule‑driven with strong planning skills for multiple projects.
• Flexibility to be on call for all shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Required skills

• Process Safety Management (PSM) knowledge and experience.
• Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Management of Change (MOC) processes.
• Mechanical Integrity (MI) and OSHA Safety and Health regulations.
• Lean methods and belt methodology.
• Data extraction and analysis for process improvement.
• Understanding of ammonia refrigeration systems and wastewater treatment operations.
