University Police Officer II

About the role

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks a dedicated Police Officer II to provide a visible safety presence on campus. Working under general supervision, you will patrol, respond to emergencies, and support specialized unit activities such as crime prevention and special events.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol designated campus areas by vehicle and foot to deter crime, identify hazards, and enforce laws.
• Respond to emergency calls, provide crowd control, administer emergency medical aid, and make critical decisions on scene.
• Conduct preliminary and follow‑up investigations, interview witnesses, collect and preserve evidence.
• Serve warrants and summonses, perform searches, detain suspicious persons or vehicles, and process violators.
• Interact with students, staff, and visitors to build rapport and provide legal guidance.
• Mediates disputes, offers crisis mediation for domestic, civil, suicide, or hostage situations.

Required profile

• Under general supervision, capable of performing all duties of a campus police officer.
• Ability to patrol, respond to emergencies, and conduct investigations.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with the campus community.
• Commitment to uphold university policies and state laws.
