Unit Support Assistant – Healthcare Support Role

About the role

The Unit Support Assistant provides essential housekeeping, patient transport, and clerical support to ensure smooth operations within a healthcare facility. This role assists both patients and staff by handling non‑skilled tasks, maintaining safety, and keeping supplies stocked.

Key responsibilities

• Transport patients to tests, appointments, and therapy activities, preparing gurneys, wheelchairs and charts.
• Assist the lift team with safe patient transfers using established equipment and methods.
• Perform clerical duties such as answering phones, filing documents, completing simple forms, and managing office supplies.
• Monitor patients at risk of wandering or falling and keep the environment free of hazards.
• Stock, refill and redistribute patient‑care supplies, linens and laboratory items according to guidelines.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work areas, including countertops, tables, chairs and kitchen appliances.

Required profile

• At least three (3) months of experience in a healthcare setting providing non‑skilled support services to patients.
• Physical Class 3 – moderate; ability to stand, walk, bend, lift 10‑25 lb regularly and occasional lifts over 25 lb.
• Current and valid CPR certification authorized by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (desirable).
