Unit Secretary – Healthcare Administrative Support

About the role

Encompass Health is seeking a Unit Secretary to provide essential clerical support to a nursing unit, ensuring smooth patient care and serving as a friendly point of contact for patients, families, staff, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain complete and accurate patient medical records using the appropriate labeling system.
• Accurately transcribe medical orders and distribute them to relevant disciplines.
• Act as a resource for patients, families, physicians, and visitors at the nursing station.
• Coordinate unit operations to optimize safe patient care delivery.
• Schedule tests, appointments, and transportation in a timely manner.
• Serve as a liaison for inquiries, directing them to the appropriate personnel.

Required profile

• CPR certification preferred.
• One year of inpatient unit secretary experience preferred.
• Active enrollment in a healthcare program (e.g., nursing) and familiarity with medical terminology.
• Experience reading and transcribing medical orders preferred.
