Truck Driver - Semi-Trailer

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a truck driver for its Chariton distribution center. The driver operates company vehicles and equipment safely and professionally to deliver products to customers on schedule, unloads and loads trailers as directed by the customer and completes the related paperwork. The position reports to the VP of Transportation, Transportation Manager, Assistant Transportation Manager or Truck Department Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Operate a semi-tractor and trailer safely to scheduled destinations and meet delivery times.
• Perform customer service duties at customer locations, including unloading, delivering special orders and pharmaceutical orders, and returning authorized merchandise to the distribution center.
• Fuel and hook equipment, and carry out pre- and post-trip inspections, monitoring equipment and reporting defects to the truck shop.
• Complete paperwork such as the daily logbook, load information sheet, pharmacy check-in and inspection sheets, and follow Federal Motor Carrier Safety Handbook rules.
• Clean the trailer when needed and perform other duties assigned by management.

Required profile

• High school or equivalent education; accredited truck-driving school preferred.
• Aged 21 or older, graduated from a truck driving school or with at least one year of over-the-road driving experience.
• Valid CDL and DOT certification, having passed the required Department of Transportation tests.
• Ability to lift 20-50 pounds occasionally and 10-25 pounds frequently, and to sustain long periods of sedentary work.
• Must pass the warehouse simulation test, fitness test, drug screen and hearing test.
• Visual requirements: clear vision within 20 inches to 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision and field of vision as listed in the DOT handbook.
