Traffic Engineer (EIT) – Transportation Design

About the role

HDR is seeking a Traffic Engineer (Engineer in Training) to join its traffic team. You will support a variety of transportation projects, performing traffic forecasting, analysis, and design under the guidance of a Project Engineer or Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct operational traffic analysis using highway capacity software and micro‑simulation models (e.g., VISSIM, Aimsun).
• Design traffic control elements such as signs, striping, signals, lighting, and Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS) including real‑time information, adaptive signal control, CCTV and variable message signs.
• Perform accident analysis and develop mitigation strategies.
• Prepare design documentation using CAD platforms (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Guide Sign).
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to project deliverables.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or transportation engineering.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Required skills

• CAD software: MicroStation, AutoCAD, Guide Sign.
• Traffic analysis tools: HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, Aimsun.
• Highway safety analysis software.
• Understanding of traffic design standards and ITS technologies.
