Traffic Control Associate

About the role

The Traffic Control Associate ensures safe movement of motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, and construction crews around active work zones. Working on construction sites across California, you will use hand signals, flags, and traffic devices to manage vehicle flow and protect public safety.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, maintain, and tear down work zone traffic control devices such as cones, barricades, and signs.
• Signal drivers using a paddle or hand signals to stop, slow, or proceed safely.
• Communicate with crew leaders, customers, and the public via two‑way radios or hand signals.
• Drive company trucks and medium‑duty vehicles, tow trailers, and keep equipment organized.
• Follow state, federal, and company safety guidelines and traffic control plans.

Required profile

• Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• At least two years of experience in traffic control or a related field.
• Ability to work independently in high‑volume outdoor environments.
• Strong interpersonal and customer‑service skills.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb and stand for long periods in various weather conditions.

Required skills

• ATSSA Flagging certification (or willingness to obtain in‑house).
• Experience operating medium‑duty vehicles and towing trailers.
• Basic computer proficiency.
• Knowledge of Caltrans MUTCD and traffic control plans (preferred).
• Bilingual English/Spanish (a plus).
