About the role
The Department of Ocean Engineering seeks a full‑time tenured professor to join its faculty on a 9‑month academic appointment, with the possibility of a summer appointment subject to funding. The position focuses on marine robotics and will begin on 1 January 2027.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct original scholarly research in marine robotics and autonomous underwater systems.
- Develop and sustain a self‑funding research program, including grant acquisition and laboratory management.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in ocean engineering, robotics, and related subjects.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students, supervising theses and research projects.
- Contribute to departmental service, curriculum development, and outreach activities.
Required profile
- Doctoral degree in electrical and computer engineering or a closely related field.
- More than ten years of university‑level experience, including research lab or center management.
- Demonstrated record of research excellence, innovation, and successful student mentorship.
- Commitment to collegial service and the ability to work autonomously.
Required skills
- Marine robotics and autonomy.
- Design of advanced autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) systems.
- Field robotics, decentralized control, and estimation techniques.
- Stochastic control methods.
