About the role
The Department of Romance Studies at UNC‑Chapel Hill seeks a Teaching Assistant Professor to join its diverse, plurilingual faculty. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and graduate instruction across French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and related minority languages, and support the department’s scholarly and service missions.
Key responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses to an average of 5,000 students each semester, including majors and minors.
- Supervise graduate coursework and research for approximately 100 MA and PhD students.
- Provide academic technology support to foreign‑language instructors through the Foreign Language Resource Center.
- Contribute to the department’s publications, including the journals *Hispanfila* and *Romance Notes* and the North Carolina Series in Romance Studies.
- Participate in pre‑professional training, study‑abroad coordination, and other service activities.
Required profile
- Advanced knowledge of Romance languages, literatures and cultures.
- Experience teaching at the university level, both undergraduate and graduate.
- Ability to engage students in transnational and regional contexts.
- Commitment to scholarly research and publication.
