About the role

The Texas Comptroller's Office is seeking a Taxpayer Enforcement Officer I to join its Enforcement Division in Abilene. This position supports the enforcement, compliance, and interpretation of the Texas Tax Code and related statutes, ensuring accurate collection of state taxes and fees.

Key responsibilities

• Enforce and interpret the Texas Tax Code and related statutes.
• Assist in the collection of direct and indirect state taxes and fees.
• Maintain confidentiality while handling taxpayer records, payments, and information.
• Respond to taxpayer inquiries and provide guidance on compliance requirements.
• Collaborate with internal teams to support audit and collection activities.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least two years of full‑time experience in accounting, bookkeeping, collections, call‑center, clerical/administrative, or record‑keeping roles.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree (transcripts required at hiring).
