Tax Specialist

About the role

This position supports federal, state, and local tax accounting and compliance for a financially stable insurance organization. Working in a hybrid model, the Tax Specialist collaborates with accounting, audit, and finance teams to ensure accurate tax provisions, filings, and audit support.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review federal and state income tax provisions, including current and deferred taxes, provision‑to‑return reconciliations, and intercompany settlements.
• Support quarterly and annual financial statement disclosures under GAAP and statutory reporting.
• Prepare and/or review tax filings, estimated payments, and extensions for federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
• Assist with tax audits by gathering documentation and coordinating with external auditors.
• Conduct tax research and analysis on federal, state, and local matters.
• Maintain internal controls and SOX‑related tax processes, including documentation and testing.
• Identify opportunities to streamline and automate tax processes and workpapers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field (preferred).
• 3–5 years of tax or tax accounting experience.
• Experience in insurance, financial services, or complex multi‑entity environments is a plus.
• CPA or Master’s in Taxation preferred but not required.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of income tax accounting (current and deferred).
• Familiarity with GAAP and statutory reporting.
• Proficiency with tax and accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
