Tax Compliance Officer II

About the role

The Vermont Department of Taxes is seeking a Tax Compliance Officer II to join its Compliance Division in Montpelier. This role supports public programs by ensuring accurate and equitable tax collection, while providing education and outreach to taxpayers.

Key responsibilities

• Collect unpaid taxes via phone or other methods on behalf of the state.
• Arrange formal payment agreements, propose settlements, and waive selected penalties when appropriate.
• Establish personal liability and initiate bank/wage garnishment orders and property liens.
• Conduct education and outreach to promote voluntary compliance among taxpayers.
