Tax Associate, Business Tax Services

About the role

KPMG is seeking a Tax Associate to join its Business Tax Services practice in Sacramento. You will work with high‑profile clients, providing tax planning, compliance and consulting support while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Assist clients with tax planning, compliance and consulting engagements.
• Supervise and allocate work for shared‑services team members and interns.
• Prepare and review tax provisions for financial statements and coordinate with audit teams.
• Analyze, prepare and review tax workpapers, returns, estimated payments and extensions.
• Research and draft technical memoranda for compliance and consulting projects.
• Respond to IRS and other tax‑authority inquiries, including tax controversy support.
• Develop capabilities in AI, Alteryx, Power BI and other emerging technologies.
• Maintain strong client relationships and stay current on tax technical developments.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, business, economics, information technology, data analytics or related field.
• Pursuing CPA licensure in the state of California with required academic credits completed.
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science or data analytics.
• Strong technical aptitude, critical‑thinking and agility in a dynamic environment.
