Systems Administrator – Data & Systems Team

About the role

The Data & Systems team within the Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) group at NASA Glenn Research Center is looking for a Systems Administrator. You will be responsible for administering, implementing, and maintaining operating systems and related software to ensure optimal performance and reliability across our aeropropulsion and space‑propulsion test facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Administer, develop, test, implement, install, configure and maintain operating systems, associated software and storage solutions.
• Establish and enforce standards for computer operations to guarantee hardware‑software compatibility.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to software, operating systems, and networking.
• Schedule, perform and monitor system backups; execute data recovery when required.
• Recommend hardware and software upgrades based on growth trends and capacity forecasts.
• Plan, schedule and execute system upgrades, coordinating transitions from test to production environments.
• Utilize scripts and automation tools to schedule routine tasks.
• Configure and maintain workstations, printers, servers, tape devices and other hardware components.
• Provide technical support and guidance to system users while ensuring compliance with security policies.

Required profile

• Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field (Bachelor’s preferred) or 10+ years of systems administration experience.
• Strong understanding of networking principles and system security practices.
• Familiarity with backup and recovery processes.

Required skills

• Server management (including campus‑connected and air‑gapped servers).
• Enterprise application and web server support.
• Build server design for software installations and deployments.
• Containerization using Docker.
• PXE boot system design and implementation.
• Operating system administration and storage management.
