Systemic Litigation Attorney

About the role

The Michigan Poverty Law Program (MPLP) is seeking a Systemic Litigation Attorney to lead high‑impact civil litigation focused on racial justice for low‑income Michiganders. The attorney will expand MPLP’s capacity to address systemic issues across consumer, family, housing, and public benefits law.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, develop, and lead systemic and appellate litigation that improves health, safety, and economic security of low‑income communities.
• Collaborate with subject‑matter attorneys, legal‑aid programs, pro bono counsel, law school clinics, and community organizations to shape a racial‑justice agenda.
• Co‑counsel cases, provide training and technical assistance to Michigan’s legal‑aid community.
• Create practical litigation resources and support advocates statewide.

Required profile

• Licensed attorney with substantial experience in civil litigation and a demonstrated commitment to racial equity.
• Strategic thinker able to develop innovative legal strategies across multiple practice areas.
• Strong collaborative skills for working with diverse partners and stakeholders.
