Swim Instructor I & II – Weekends Only

About the role

Join the Oak Square YMCA as a Swim Instructor I or II, working weekends only. Under the Aquatics Director, you will teach swim lessons following the YMCA of the USA model, primarily to children.

Key responsibilities

• Report to the deck 15 minutes before shift in appropriate swim attire and have equipment ready.
• Teach classes on time, maintain attendance records, and report any student absences.
• Communicate children’s progress to parents regularly and provide progress reports.
• Enforce pool rules, conduct safety briefings, and follow emergency procedures.
• Maintain a safe environment, keeping a watchful eye on all participants and ensuring proper supervision.
• Incorporate personal safety, water orientation, stroke development, water games, rescue skills, and personal growth into each lesson.

Required profile

• Experience teaching swim lessons, especially to children.
• Ability to interact physically and verbally with members and staff, including lifting up to 50 lb.
• Commitment to attend all required trainings, safety drills, and in‑service sessions.
• Reliability with minimal absenteeism and willingness to teach an entire session.

Required skills

• CPR certification
• First Aid certification
• YMCA Swim Lessons (YSL) certification (preferred)
• WSI certification (preferred)
