Sports Instructor – Jr. Celtics Youth Sports Coach

About the role

The YMCA is seeking a passionate Sports Instructor to lead sports classes for children ages 3 to 14. Classes run on weekday afternoons and weekend mornings, requiring strong communication with children and parents.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and supervise program activities, develop new sports programs and expand community offerings.
• Recruit, train, and manage staff and volunteers, evaluating performance and motivating teams.
• Maintain gymnasium facilities and equipment in coordination with the Youth and Families Director.
• Create seasonal sports schedules and age‑appropriate leagues for children.
• Support the Youth Development Initiative for pre‑teens and teens, managing the Teen Space.
• Market program information to members and the broader community.
• Deliver innovative programming for ages 2 to adult and engage directly with families.
• Assist with fundraising activities, special events, and respond to member inquiries promptly.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or working toward a recreation/health degree.
• 1–2 years of experience as a sports coach or volunteer preferred.
• Completion within 30 days of hire of required trainings (Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, First Aid, AED, etc.).
• Excellent public relations, conflict‑resolution, and communication skills.
• Energetic, motivated, well‑organized with a passion for children and sports.
