Survey Party Chief – Lead Crew of 1‑3 Surveyors

About the role

Cardinal Civil Resources is seeking a Survey Party Chief to lead a small crew on construction surveying projects. The role involves field work, data verification, safety oversight, and occasional office tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor projects from initiation through delivery, interfacing with clients and staff on technical matters.
• Review and verify field survey data, including shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions.
• Lead daily safety meetings, ensure compliance with safety policies, and mentor less‑experienced crew members.
• Operate and maintain electronic total stations, GPS receivers, theodolites, levels, and other surveying equipment.
• Perform field duties such as setting grades, cutting brush for line‑of‑sight, and locating survey monuments.
• Conduct office duties including data reduction, field note reduction, and data checks.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with strong math, geometry, and trigonometry background.
• Minimum five years of survey experience, including at least three years as a party chief.
• Must be able to travel daily, work in inclement weather, and lift up to 80 lb.
• Valid driver’s license with insurable record and reliable transportation.
• Must be at least 21 years old and pass background and drug tests.

Required skills

• Proficiency with total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors.
• Ability to operate electronic measuring devices such as theodolites, levels, and transit instruments.
• Reading and interpreting engineering plans, construction documents, and blueprints.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in field measurements and calculations.
