About the role
Woolpert is seeking an experienced Survey Crew Chief to lead field survey teams on a variety of projects, including land title, transportation, energy, aviation, and land development. The role combines technical expertise with leadership, ensuring accurate data collection and compliance with industry standards.
Key responsibilities
- Lead a crew to perform boundary, topographic, construction, and as‑built surveys.
- Operate and maintain total stations, GNSS receivers, laser scanners, levels, and data collectors.
- Prepare detailed field notes, sketches, and perform initial quality control using survey software.
- Monitor project progress, troubleshoot issues, and communicate delays to the Survey Team Leader.
- Enforce safety protocols, maintain PPE inventory, and conduct equipment safety checks.
- Provide guidance and training to junior crew members and assist in performance evaluations.
Required profile
- Certified Survey Technician, OSHA certifications, or passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Surveying exam (desired).
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certification (preferred).
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or related field, or 5 + years of relevant experience.
- Physically capable of standing, climbing, lifting up to 100 lb, and working outdoors in varied weather.
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to pass background and drug tests.
Required skills
- Proficiency with total stations, GNSS GPS receivers, laser scanners, levels, and data collectors.
- Experience using survey software for data download, processing, and quality verification.
- Ability to locate boundary corners, operate ground‑penetrating radar and electromagnetic locators (preferred).
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and data transfer/processing tools.
