Surgery Special Unit Coordinator

About the role

The Surgery Special Unit Coordinator supports both scheduled and unscheduled procedures, admissions, and appointments for the Plastic Surgery Integrated Surgical Institute. Working on the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, the role ensures smooth patient flow and accurate data management.

Key responsibilities

• Validate patient demographic and physician information and maintain the master patient index.
• Identify patients needing financial counseling and coordinate appropriate payment arrangements.
• Tri­age appointments based on diagnosis, patient preferences, and physician specialty.
• Schedule intra‑ and inter‑departmental procedures according to physician orders and protocol.
• Ensure accurate CPT coding, case information, and data entry for all scheduled services.
• Serve as liaison with the admitting office for hospital reservations, updates, and cancellations.
• Communicate detailed instructions and resources to patients and families.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED.
• 2 years of related experience in patient registration, billing, insurance processing, or appointment scheduling, OR 3 years of customer service concierge experience.
• Working knowledge of computerized scheduling and billing systems.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong PC and software navigation skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and CPT/ICD coding (preferred).
