Medical Technologist / MLT / Lab Technician - Automated Chemistry

About the role

Cleveland Clinic Main Campus is hiring a Medical Technologist, MLT or Lab Technician for the Automated Chemistry position in the Clinical Biochemistry department. The role covers performing and interpreting tests at all complexity levels, working nights Monday to Friday from 11:00pm to 7:30am, every third weekend, with rotating holidays. The position is eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $5,000.

Key responsibilities

• Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting and keeping records of patient test results.
• Maintain regulatory knowledge and adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, documenting QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance.
• Take action on quality control or quality assurance issues and keep instruments and equipment in line with manufacturer specifications.
• Perform proficiency testing in compliance with CLIA regulations and participate in continuing education, professional development and annual competency assessments.
• Follow established policies when test systems fall outside acceptable performance levels, and report problems affecting test performance or reporting to the supervisor or laboratory director.
• May train students, residents and employees in theory, technical skills, safety protocols and test protocols.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a science-related field, or meeting the CLIA qualifications for high-complexity testing personnel under grandfathering clauses.
• One or more licenses in Microbiology, Immunohematology or another discipline.
• Preferred: certification as a Medical Technologist (MT, MLT or MLS) or eligibility from ASCP, and one year of clinical microbiology experience.
• Ability to read specimens under a microscope, distinguish colours and hues, and handle specimens and equipment; light lifting and exposure to biohazards and hazardous chemicals may occur.
