Surgery Advanced Practice Clinician

About the role

The Surgery Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) works within the Surgery department at Jefferson Lansdale Hospital, supporting the program alongside attending physicians and residents. The APC provides clinical care across the continuum, including the Emergency Room, inpatient ward and Operating Room, and coordinates care with hospital consultants. Coverage is provided at Jefferson Lansdale Hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Attend morning sign-out with residents and attendings as part of the surgery team.
• Manage surgery patients: history and physicals, orders, brief operative notes, progress notes and discharge summaries.
• Prescribe medications, including narcotics, under federal and state law.
• Perform surgery consults and emergency room evaluations.
• Communicate with preadmission testing nurses and staff about elective surgery patients.
• Provide OR first assistant coverage, including open, laparoscopic and robotic procedures.
• Round on patients, write progress notes, review lab and imaging data, and perform suturing, drain removal, abscess drainage, wound care, skin biopsy and minor procedures.
• Carry out hospital-issued phone calls and address issues, and attend monthly or quarterly program meetings, in person or via Zoom.
• Work a staggered schedule with coverage until 10pm Monday to Friday, full Saturday and Sunday coverage averaging one weekend per month, and holiday coverage shared by the APC team.

Required profile

• Master's degree.
• National Board Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• BLS certification.
• Professional licensure and certifications, maintained and renewed.

Required skills

• Efficient use of the electronic medical record EPIC.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and triage patient care.
• Strong communication skills and flexibility.
