Supervisor, Laboratory Services

About the role

The University of Miami/UHealth Katz Center Department is seeking a full‑time Supervisor of Laboratory Services to lead a team of technologists on the UHealth campus. This position provides technical direction, oversees daily operations, and ensures high‑quality laboratory testing.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise technologists, review preliminary test results, and manage final report distribution.
• Investigate deviations, implement corrective actions, and support proficiency testing.
• Manage purchasing, requisition, and maintenance of laboratory supplies.
• Oversee orientation, training, competency evaluation, and scheduling of laboratory personnel.
• Perform technical duties related to quality assurance, licensure, and certification.
• Interview, hire, evaluate, counsel, and discipline staff members.
• Develop policies for bloodborne pathogen exposure and monitor employee health safety.
• Collaborate with medical students and allied personnel on research and educational activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Minimum of three years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Proven ability to manage performance, provide feedback, and delegate tasks.
• Experience in training and developing technical staff.
• Strong team‑leadership and collaborative skills.

Required skills

• Technical proficiency with laboratory information systems and office software.
• Knowledge of quality‑assurance programs, licensure, and certification processes.
• Ability to conduct investigations of test deviations and implement corrective actions.
