About the role
The University of Miami’s Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Scholarship, Division of Veterinary Resources seeks an experienced Supervisor of Animal Husbandry to oversee animal care activities on the Medical Campus. This role ensures compliance with SOPs, IACUC policies, and supports the department’s research objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor animal care, breeding, health, and behavior, taking corrective actions as needed.
- Recruit, select, and train staff in animal care procedures, maintenance duties, and safety protocols.
- Develop work schedules, assign tasks such as feeding, treatment, and cleaning of animal quarters.
- Prepare reports on facility activities, employee time records, and animal treatments.
- Coordinate equipment, supply needs, and work schedules with managing staff.
- Investigate and resolve complaints promptly.
- Arrange transport of animals, equipment, feed, and supplies.
- Assess internal controls and ensure staff compliance with university policies.
Required profile
- High School Diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences preferred.
- AALAS Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certification required within one year of hire.
- Minimum three years of supervisory experience; animal husbandry or laboratory animal experience preferred.
- Strong communication skills and ability to multitask.
