Summer 2027 Severance Tax Consulting Intern

About the role

Ryan is looking for interns interested in state, local, federal and international taxation. You will work side by side with subject matter experts in a team-based environment to identify tax savings opportunities for Fortune 500 and 1,000 clients, with training and development to become seasoned tax professionals. The internship is based in Houston, TX.

Key responsibilities

• Provide exceptional client service to multi-state companies by identifying tax savings opportunities
• Assist multi-state companies with state and local tax controversies, including preparing clients for discussions with auditors, representing them at hearings and appeal meetings, and preparing protests
• Research and draft technical memoranda on state and local tax questions or issues
• Respond to client inquiries and requests from tax authorities
• Review documentation and research issues
• Work with raw data to complete detailed calculations

Required profile

• Working toward a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering or Economics
• Anticipated graduation within one year of the internship
• Minimum overall and major GPA of 3.0
• Minimum of 9 hours of accounting coursework
• Valid driver's license

Required skills

• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment and to prioritize multiple assignments
• Strong problem-solving, attention to detail and communication skills
