Severance Tax Consultant

About the role

Ryan is hiring a Severance Tax Consultant in Houston. The Consultant works with the team to identify severance tax incentives and deductions so that clients' overall severance tax liabilities are reduced. The role covers multistate severance tax mechanics, including incentive research and analysis, database work and detailed reconciliations and calculations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform fieldwork at the client site to review support documentation needed to substantiate incentive applications and refund claims.
• Communicate with clients and with regulatory and taxing authorities.
• Research and analyze state severance tax issues and communicate findings to management.
• Gather data, enter data and perform detailed calculations.
• Use Microsoft Access and Excel to prepare refund claims.
• Research for proposals and prospect development, and carry out other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Business Computer Information Systems, Statistics or another degree, with a Master's in a business discipline or a JD.
• 9 accounting hours or substitute technical courses, with a 3.0 GPA or higher and a major GPA of 3.25 or higher.
• Zero to two years of audit or tax-related experience.
• Valid driver's license; no supervisory responsibilities.

Required skills

• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Internet navigation and research.
