Structural Engineer – Building Systems & DFMA

About the role

Reframe Systems is seeking a senior Structural Engineer to own the structural system for its modular housing platform. You will define standard assemblies, embed structural logic in digital tools, and partner with architects, modelers, and external engineers to deliver factory‑buildable, code‑compliant homes.

Key responsibilities

• Define and document standard wall, floor, roof, stair, and connection assemblies that balance strength, cost, and manufacturability.
• Partner with architects and modelers to translate design intent into structurally rational, factory‑buildable systems, and encode rules in Onshape/FeatureScript models.
• Lead structural engineering on priority projects, prepare packages for external engineers, and drive efficient review cycles.
• Diagnose and resolve structural issues in factory and field, turning lessons into updated standards and tolerances.
• Coordinate with external Engineers of Record to align performance criteria, avoid over‑design, and produce lightweight “playbooks” for future collaborations.

Required profile

• 7+ years of structural engineering experience on building projects, preferably multifamily or high‑repeatability housing.
• Strong grasp of wood, light‑gauge, and mixed‑material systems, including gravity, lateral, connections, deflection, and creep.
• Deep knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, and relevant state codes (Massachusetts or California).
• Proven ability to collaborate with architects, MEP engineers, fabricators, and field teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with structural analysis and documentation tools (Revit, RISA, ETABS, SAP2000, SkyCiv, Dlubal RFEM).
• Experience working in parametric CAD environments (Onshape, SolidWorks, Tekla).
• Familiarity with API‑driven structural tools and scripting/automation for repeatable studies.
• Ability to develop and encode design rules, load paths, and tolerances for automated workflows.
