About the role

The State of Illinois is seeking a senior civil engineer to lead the review, investigation, and approval of bridge and structure plans for the Department of Transportation and local agencies. The role ensures structural adequacy, compliance with standards, and timely resolution of construction issues.

Key responsibilities

• Direct a staff that analyzes and reviews bridge and structure plans prepared by consultants and in‑house engineers.
• Assign, monitor, and ensure project completion meets schedule commitments and applicable standards.
• Review and approve construction submittals, investigate change‑of‑condition issues, and resolve contractor or plan errors.

Required profile

• Professional civil engineering license (PE) or equivalent qualification.
• Extensive experience in bridge design, structural analysis, and construction submittal review.
• Ability to manage staff, prioritize multiple projects, and communicate technical findings.
