About the role

Anthropic is building safe, beneficial AI systems and needs engineers who can turn cutting‑edge model capabilities into real‑world tools. As a Staff Software Engineer in the Applied AI Lab, you will prototype and ship applications that bring frontier AI to professionals who are not software‑native.

Key responsibilities

• Rapidly prototype full‑stack applications that embed frontier AI into non‑software‑first workflows, shipping early and often to maximize learning.
• Immerse yourself in unfamiliar domains, work directly with users, and translate their real‑world processes into product concepts, evaluations, and workflows.
• Collaborate closely with research teams to understand new model capabilities and turn them into tools that non‑technical professionals can adopt first.
• Partner with internal teams and external industry partners to gather feedback, iterate quickly, and validate or invalidate product hypotheses.
• Design and run structured experiments to test hypotheses, balancing creative exploration with rigorous evaluation.
• Produce documentation and insights that guide successful prototypes toward full‑scale product development.
• Provide feedback to research teams on model performance in domain‑heavy, real‑world settings and suggest areas for improvement.
• Flexibly contribute across multiple Labs initiatives based on organizational priorities and emerging opportunities.

Required profile

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
