Staff+ Software Engineer, Claude Managed Agents

About the role

Anthropic is seeking a Staff+ Software Engineer to help build and scale Claude Managed Agents, a hosted platform that lets developers create, run, and manage production‑grade AI agents. The role sits in the Agentic Systems team within the Platform organization and focuses on the backend and distributed systems that power long‑running, stateful agent sessions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate durable session and event storage, sandbox orchestration, streaming, scheduling, and multi‑tenant isolation for the Managed Agents platform.
• Drive end‑to‑end product development from initial concept through general availability, collaborating with product, research, developer experience, and go‑to‑market teams.
• Improve the agent harness – the loop that calls Claude, routes tool calls, manages context, and handles errors – and build evaluation infrastructure to measure its quality.
• Ensure reliability, low latency, and cost‑efficiency of the platform in production environments.

Required profile

• Several years of experience building backend services and large‑scale distributed systems.
• Proven ability to design APIs as standalone products and to own systems through design, deployment, and operations.
• Comfort with ambiguous problems and a track record of turning ideas into shipped platform capabilities.
