Staff Robotics System Safety Engineer

About the role

Rhoda AI is developing next‑generation generalist intelligent robots. The Staff Robotics System Safety Engineer will lead the design and verification of safety‑critical features for the RhodavAI humanoid robot, ensuring safe operation in complex real‑world environments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop safety‑related features such as stopping, collision avoidance, collision sensing, motor control and diagnostics.
• Define fail‑safe, fail‑degraded and fail‑operational strategies and the required architectures.
• Drive safety requirements from inception through approval, implementation and verification.
• Invent, implement and use custom instrumentation and verification equipment to derive and verify requirements.
• Provide hands‑on support to System Integration and Application Engineering teams and collaborate closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Software and Applications groups.

Required profile

• 10+ years of mass‑produced electromechanical product development experience.
• B.S. in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science (M.S. preferred).
• Proven track record in safety‑critical product development, safety certification and safety case creation.
• Experience deriving safety requirements through analysis and experimentation.
• Hands‑on experience with at least one discipline: Electrical, Mechanical or Software engineering.

Required skills

• Python for data acquisition, conversion and analysis.
• Statistical analysis tools.
• Safety analysis methods: HARA, DFMEA, FTA, STPA.
• Functional safety standards (IEC 61508, TUV Rheinland certification).
• Knowledge of vision, TOF and laser sensors, motor control, and safety‑critical embedded systems.
