Staff Machine Learning Engineer
Evolve · Remote - US
Job description
About the role
Evolve's Data Product team builds data and machine-learning products that improve owner acquisition and retention, pricing, revenue performance and decision-making. It is hiring a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, its first and most senior ML engineer, to own how models get to production and stay there: training and inference systems, deployment and monitoring patterns, and engineering standards. The role reports to Anto Kajajian and sits within a remote US team.
Key responsibilities
- Build and operate ML systems end to end: data and feature pipelines, training and evaluation, batch or online inference, deployment, monitoring, retraining, failure handling and iteration after launch.
- Define how ML ships at Evolve: packaging, deployment, versioning, monitoring and retraining on Snowflake, dbt, Python, AWS and a Kubernetes-based stack, plus CI/CD, logging and observability standards (GitHub, Sumo Logic).
- Shape ML infrastructure strategy as a key decision-maker, evaluating build-versus-buy options and setting the roadmap for the production footprint.
- Productionize LLM-based products, including evaluation harnesses, guardrails, cost and latency management.
- Lead the technical direction and hands-on delivery of one or two prioritized ML initiatives at a time.
- Partner with data scientists on forecasting, price-elasticity and optimization models for pricing and revenue, and on LLM products, owning the path from prototype to production.
- Set standards for testing, reproducibility, versioning, observability, documentation and responsible model operation, and mentor engineers and data scientists.
Required profile
- Typically 8+ years building and operating production ML or data-intensive systems, several of which drove business decisions.
- Evidence of Staff-level scope: leading ML systems from idea to sustained production use and creating leverage for others.
- Ability to connect technical decisions to business outcomes and communicate tradeoffs to technical, product, business and executive audiences.
- Self-directed, collaborative, hands-on in a lean remote team.
Required skills
- Expert Python and strong software engineering fundamentals (testing, code review, CI/CD, packaging, dependency management, observability).
- Strong SQL and comfort with large datasets in a cloud warehouse.
- Cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent), containers and orchestration (Kubernetes or equivalent).
- Offline and online evaluation, leakage, drift and basic experiment design.
- Helpful: Snowflake, dbt, feature stores, model registries, workflow orchestration, MLOps, LLM evaluation, demand forecasting, dynamic pricing, causal inference.
What we offer
- Annual base salary of $160,000-$208,000, plus equity and a variable annual bonus.
- 401(k) with a 4% immediate vesting match.
- Medical, dental and vision plans, plus mental health visits and pet insurance.
- Paid parental leave, generous PTO, RTO, sick leave and holidays.
- Travel credit after one year and discounts at Evolve properties.
