Staff Backend Engineer, Data Ingestion

About the role

As a Staff Backend Engineer focused on Data Ingestion, you will own the backend platform and observability systems that keep Scribe’s Workflow Mapping capture and ingestion pipelines healthy at massive scale. You will work on the Recorder Engineering team, shaping reliability roadmaps and ensuring data from desktop apps and browser extensions flows reliably into processing and AI pipelines.

Key responsibilities

• Build and evolve monitoring and observability for hundreds of thousands of desktop and browser extension installations worldwide.
• Define and improve signals that measure recorder reliability, data capture health, and system availability.
• Own and scale backend ingestion services that connect captured data to processing and AI pipelines.
• Improve background‑job reliability and task orchestration to ensure dependable data flow.
• Design, deploy, and operate production services in AWS, using observability to detect failures and guide improvements.
• Lead cross‑team technical work, clarify ownership, unblock engineers, and set high standards for scalable architecture.

Required profile

• Deep experience building backend applications and owning complex production systems at staff‑level scope.
• Strong Python expertise with ability to work across TypeScript and Go as needed.
• Proven track record designing and operating distributed systems and large‑scale data ingestion pipelines.
• Experience building monitoring and observability systems for production health.
• Comfort with message queues, background jobs, and task orchestration tools such as Celery, SQS, RabbitMQ, or Kafka.
• Hands‑on experience deploying and maintaining services in AWS.
