Staff Attorney – Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

About the role

The Staff Attorney, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren provides direct civil legal services, education, and advocacy for older adults in Pennsylvania who are seeking custody of minor children. The role supports grandparents caring for grandchildren and addresses related legal and safety issues.

Key responsibilities

• File and represent clients in child custody petitions and related litigation.
• Handle protection‑from‑abuse matters on behalf of minor children.
• Offer legal advice, brief services, and referrals for custody or dependency issues.
• Coordinate with police and district attorneys on criminal matters that affect civil cases.
• Collaborate with legal advocates to connect clients with social services.
• Maintain resources and referral information for grandfamilies.
• Support community clinics, client councils, and pro‑bono recruitment and training.
• Perform additional duties as directed by the Project Director and Supervising Attorney.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor degree and active Pennsylvania bar admission.
• Experience in family law, elder law, or related civil litigation.
• Demonstrated commitment to serving low‑income, minority, and vulnerable older adults.
• Strong analytical, research, and written communication abilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively with social service providers and law enforcement.
