Sr Principal Scientist / Associate Director, Biomarker Assay Development

About the role

Novartis is looking for a Sr Principal Scientist / Associate Director to lead a biomarker assay development laboratory in Cambridge, MA. The role leads a high-performing team in translational research, developing biomarker assays that inform drug discovery and clinical development decisions across renal, liver, fibrosis and emerging disease areas. Relocation support is available.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development and qualification of biomarker assays for discovery, translational research and clinical development
• Design assay strategies for target engagement, pharmacodynamics and patient stratification
• Drive laboratory operations, resource planning and prioritization
• Build, mentor and develop a team of biomarker scientists and foster a culture of scientific excellence
• Partner with Translational Medicine, Data Science and cross-functional teams on biomarker strategies
• Establish and manage external collaborations and oversee outsourced assay activities
• Provide scientific leadership for translational plans and represent the lab in cross-functional forums

Required profile

• PhD, MD or equivalent degree in a relevant life sciences discipline
• Extensive experience developing biomarker assays in pharma or biotech
• Proven success designing and qualifying assays for preclinical and clinical studies
• Experience leading teams in complex matrix organizations and managing external partners and CROs
• Desirable: multiomics profiling and patient stratification experience

Required skills

• PCR, next-generation sequencing, immunoassays and mass spectrometry
• Cellular, circulating, proteomic, genetic and genomic biomarker approaches

What we offer

• Base salary range of 152,600 to 283,400 USD per year, with a possible performance bonus
