Principal Scientist II / Senior Principal Scientist, PK Sciences AI Lead

About the role

Novartis is looking for a PK Sciences representative to lead the development and use of AI-enabled strategies that transform clinical pharmacology support of new medicines. The role is a dual posting in Cambridge (USA), hybrid, and focuses on AI-based solutions that automate, innovate and accelerate PK/clinical pharmacology deliverables. It involves close collaboration with Drug Disposition (ADME, BA), Modeling & Simulation (M&S) and Operations, and covers small molecules, biologics, ADCs, radioligand therapies and cell therapies across oncology, immunology, cardiovascular, renal metabolism, neuroscience and global health.

Key responsibilities

• Use enterprise tools to strengthen strategic, scientific and operational leadership in clinical pharmacology, and identify high-value AI use cases that improve planning, analysis and decision quality.
• Represent PK Sciences in project teams and with stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
• Contribute to drug candidates across research, development and commercial, giving expert PK/drug metabolism and clinical pharmacology input.
• Use AI to speed up understanding of nonclinical and clinical PK/PD relationships, dosing strategies and predictions, and to improve protocol, report and development plan components.
• Author PK/clinical pharmacology/biopharmaceutics sections of IND/IMPD and NDA/BLA documents and respond to Health Authority questions.
• Collaborate with clinicians and clinical development colleagues to integrate PK insights into study design, data interpretation and project decisions.
• Model AI/ML approaches for model-guided molecular design, data automation and regulatory document authoring.

Required profile

• Ph.D. / Pharm.D. with relevant experience in clinical pharmacology, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics or a related background.
• At least 0-2 years of experience in drug discovery and/or development (academia, CRO, biotech or pharma).
• For Principal Scientist II: 2+ years, preferably in a lead role overseeing ADME/DMPK project strategy or AI strategy; for Senior Principal Scientist: 4+ years.
• In-depth knowledge of pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism and PK/PD, and experience in project teams (preferably global).
• Exposure to cross-functional, matrixed project environments, and strong oral and written communication.

Required skills

• Desirable: hands-on project experience with AI approaches applied to clinical pharmacology.
• Knowledge of chemistry, clinical pharmacology, clinical research, drug discovery, translational medicine and simulation software.

What we offer

• Salary range of $119,700-$222,300 for Principal Scientist II and $138,600-$257,400 for Senior Principal Scientist, depending on level and experience.
