Sr. Principal Lead Health Actuary Consultant

About the role

Mercer, part of Marsh's People and Investment business, is looking for an experienced Health Actuary Leader to join its Actuarial and Financial Consulting team. The role is based in one of the US offices (the listing is for Chicago) and is hybrid, with at least three days a week in the office. You will lead client projects on employers' health benefits strategies, from financial projections and plan design to renewals.

Key responsibilities

• Lead routine client engagements covering service delivery, strategy, financial evaluations, plan design, renewals, business placement, benchmarking and other health and welfare insurance projects.
• Create deliverables, direct analysts and associates, and act as a primary financial client contact, presenting results with senior client team members.
• Review data analyses produced by junior staff for actuarial soundness and correct use of models, and help develop them.
• Perform and review complex analyses and cost projections using or adapting Excel, SAS and other tools.
• Draft and review client reports and presentations recommending strategy, solutions or plan designs.

Required profile

• BA/BS degree in actuarial science, math, statistics, finance, economics or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in an actuarial field; consulting experience preferred.
• ASA/FSA credential.
• Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, proven project management and problem-solving skills, and ability to work in teams under tight deadlines.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Use of Excel, SAS and other software for health insurance cost projections

The base salary range is $158,800 to $261,300, depending on experience, skills, location and certifications; performance-based incentives may apply. Applications close on October 30.
