Spring/Summer Manufacturing Engineering Co-op

About the role

Alcon is seeking a motivated Manufacturing Engineering Co‑op to join its Houston team for the 2027 spring and summer terms. This on‑site role offers hands‑on experience with equipment qualification, process improvement, and cross‑functional project work in a regulated medical device environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with equipment qualification and validation activities, including preparation and execution of IQ/OQ/PQ protocols, data collection, and documentation.
• Support installation, commissioning, and implementation of new or modified manufacturing equipment, systems, and processes.
• Partner with engineers and production teams to troubleshoot equipment and process issues, conduct root‑cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct engineering studies, time observations, and data collection to identify opportunities for safety, quality, efficiency, and reliability improvements.
• Analyze manufacturing data and performance metrics, summarizing trends and recommendations using clear visual and written communication.

Required profile

• Enrolled in an accredited university for at least one semester before and after the co‑op.
• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Biomedical, Chemical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8/4.0.
• Demonstrated leadership through extracurricular activities or projects.
• Authorized to work permanently in the US (CPT may be accommodated for F‑1 visa holders).

Required skills

• Equipment qualification and validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) procedures.
• Data collection and analysis for manufacturing performance.
• Root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action implementation.
• Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen, or other continuous‑improvement methodologies.
• Understanding of GMP/GxP, quality systems, and regulatory requirements.
