Specialty Assistant Store Manager in Training

About the role

The Home Depot offers a Specialty Assistant Store Manager in Training (SASM-IT) position at its Clarksville store. The trainee gains hands-on experience in the key responsibilities of a Specialty Assistant Store Manager through a structured training program of up to 6 weeks, including mentorship and leadership development. They learn the Manager on Duty duties and how to oversee the Specialty and Pro departments, working with the Store Manager, Assistant Store Managers, Home Services and Pro business partners to improve sales, customer service and profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Training and preparation for the Assistant Manager position: complete all assigned training modules and assessments, and learn staffing and scheduling, stock control, supervising associates' selling behavior, handling customer issues and performance management.
• Customer experience: supervise associates in the selling effort, lead the GET culture, and ensure customer concerns are resolved promptly.
• Sales and productivity: help plan merchandise placement and stock integrity, and learn to operate store equipment and systems and manage daily financial operations.
• Operations management: perform opening and closing duties, follow SOPs including safety compliance, and take steps to reduce shrink.
• Safety: ensure self and associates follow safety and hazmat procedures.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or GED; a bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
• At least 3 years of work experience, with 1+ year of leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Travel is typically under 5% overnight, and the work involves standing or walking and lifting moderate-weight items (8-20 pounds).
