Special Education Teacher

About the role

Rivermont Schools seeks a dedicated Special Education Teacher to provide individualized ABA‑based instruction to students ages 6–21 with emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges. You will work in a supportive, collaborative environment focused on student growth and therapeutic outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver daily core academic instruction to a class of 4–8 students using individualized ABA‑based lesson plans.
• Develop, review, and implement IEPs in compliance with IDEA, leading or co‑leading IEP meetings with families and district representatives.
• Apply Positive Behavior Support strategies, collect and analyze daily behavioral and academic data.
• Collaborate with BCBAs, speech‑language pathologists, and occupational therapists embedded in the building.
• Maintain compliance documentation and communication logs per state and accreditation requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or related field.
• Active VDOE license with Special Education endorsement or eligibility to obtain licensure within 90 days.
• Minimum 1 year of classroom experience supporting students with autism, EBD, or related disabilities (student teaching counts).
• Valid Virginia driver's license.

Required skills

• Familiarity with IEP development and IDEA regulations.
• Knowledge of ABA principles and Positive Behavior Support strategies.
• Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret behavioral and academic data.
