Software Engineering Manager - Electronic Warfare

About the role

CACI's Mastodon Design designs and builds Electronic Warfare (EW) and SIGINT hardware and software, with a focus on field-ready devices where size, weight, power and packaging matter. It is hiring a Software Engineering Manager in Rochester, NY to oversee all aspects of software development, from UI to firmware, covering FPGA, DSP, AI/ML and Test Engineering. The manager also owns the people side of the group, hiring, mentoring and developing a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a software engineering group spanning UI to firmware, including FPGA, DSP, AI/ML and Test Engineering.
• Work with software discipline leads to hire, mentor and develop engineering talent.
• Set technical priorities and direction, partnering with Mechanical, Hardware, Systems Engineering and Product Management.
• Oversee software sustainment: bug fixes, security patching and long-term support for fielded products.
• Manage staffing and resource allocation across concurrent programs and product lines.
• Partner with Project and Program Management to align schedules, budgets and deliverables.
• Drive design standards, code review, test coverage and continuous improvement.
• Support proposals with software technical write-ups, staffing plans and basis of estimates (BoEs).
• Serve as escalation point for complex technical software issues and champion quality, security and test practices.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 10 years of software/firmware engineering experience, including leading or managing a team.
• At least 3 years of management experience with direct reports.
• Experience hiring, mentoring and developing engineers.
• Willingness to obtain a Secret clearance as a condition of continued employment.

Required skills

• Experience in embedded/application software, firmware, FPGA/digital logic design or test automation.
• Nice to have: EW/SIGINT software, ruggedized and embedded systems, FPGA toolchains, hardware/software co-design, automated test frameworks and CI for embedded systems.
