Software Engineer

About the role

SHAZAM is seeking a Software Engineer to join its hybrid team in Johnston, IA. You will help build, maintain, and improve software applications that support financial institutions, working with a talented group of engineers and product partners.

Key responsibilities

• Write clean, reliable, scalable, and testable code using Python and C++.
• Design production‑quality solutions with a focus on maintainability, performance, and long‑term value.
• Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from planning and design to testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve moderately complex software issues.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, clearly communicating technical details and trade‑offs.
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers and junior engineers.
• Identify inefficiencies, propose tooling improvements, and contribute to process enhancements.
• Research and evaluate new technologies, tools, and approaches.
• Create and maintain clear technical documentation for implemented features.
• Participate in root cause analysis to improve system reliability, scalability, and monitoring.
• Serve as a subject‑matter expert for a specific application or subsystem.
• Participate in an on‑call rotation with support and guidance.

Required profile

• Minimum of 3 years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in Python and C++.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object‑oriented design principles.
• Familiarity with version control (Git), testing, and debugging practices.
• Experience using modern development tools and collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and clear verbal and written communication skills.
