Software Engineer II – Scalable Applications & AI/ML

About the role

As a Software Engineer II at Walmart you will design, develop, and maintain scalable software solutions that power retail, logistics, and eCommerce services. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams, applying object‑oriented principles and integrating AI/ML components to improve system reliability and customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain scalable applications using JavaScript, Python, C++ and related technologies.
• Collaborate with product, operations, and data teams to translate requirements into technical designs.
• Drive the full software development lifecycle: coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
• Integrate AI/ML models and generative AI tools to enhance development efficiency.
• Conduct code reviews, debugging, and quality assurance to ensure maintainable code.
• Automate repetitive tasks and implement telemetry for observability and performance tracking.
• Provide technical guidance to small engineering teams and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong proficiency in object‑oriented programming and documentation‑based coding practices.
• Experience with multiple languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, Rust, Dart, or C++.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to convert complex requirements into effective designs.
• Hands‑on experience with continuous integration, automated testing, and quality assurance processes.
• Familiarity with AI/ML integration and generative AI tools.
• Effective communication and collaboration across cross‑functional teams.
• Adaptability to evolving technologies and agile development methodologies.
