Software Engineer II – Backend (Capital Orchestration)

Affirm is reinventing credit by offering flexible, fee‑free buy‑now‑pay‑later solutions. We are seeking a passionate Backend Software Engineer to join our Capital Orchestration team, which builds the platform that provides liquidity for loan origination, merchant payouts, and growth.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build a foundational platform that reconciles transactions across systems, partners, and cash movements.
• Create and integrate data pipelines from diverse products and systems.
• Develop intuitive user experiences that streamline internal workflows.
• Deepen understanding of the capital systems that fund and power Affirm.
• Collaborate with engineers to improve design, code quality, and testing.
• Partner with product managers and business stakeholders to design best‑in‑class systems and processes.
• Break down large projects into manageable tasks, deliver in phases, and ensure timely completion.
• Support operations by creating metrics, handling on‑call duties, and maintaining system availability.

Required profile

• At least 1.5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong cross‑team communication and collaboration abilities.
• Proactive ownership of personal growth, seeking feedback from peers and managers.
• Ability to navigate large codebases, debug, and provide constructive code reviews.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for global collaboration.

Required skills

• Fluency in full‑stack web development and backend engineering.
• Experience with event processing or batch processing at scale.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Knowledge of JavaScript and React.
• Familiarity with Airflow, Spark, SQL, and Horizon Portal.
