Software Engineer (Android & Backend)

About the role

Netflix is looking for a Software Engineer (Level 5) who will lead Android development while also building the backend services that power Netflix Playground for kids. You will help shape the native client experience and the application layer that makes interactive games fast, reliable, and safe.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement production‑quality Android code in Kotlin or Java, focusing on architecture, lifecycle, and performance.
• Develop backend APIs, service contracts, and application logic that support large‑scale A/B experiments and game integration.
• Build and maintain the WebView and JavaScript bridge layer that enables web‑based games to run inside native clients.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, game developers, and the broader Games Engineering organization.
• Drive greenfield development for Netflix Playground, making high‑leverage decisions in an ambiguous environment.

Required profile

• Deep expertise in Android development with Kotlin or Java.
• Strong comfort with backend engineering, API design, and observability at scale.
• Understanding of WebView and JS bridge integration and a focus on clean, well‑documented interfaces.
• Curiosity about game development challenges and a commitment to performance, safety, and correctness for kid‑focused products.
• Experience using AI‑assisted engineering tools and strong verification habits.
• Ability to build effective relationships with cross‑functional partners and provide constructive feedback.
