Software Development Engineer II – Robotics Software

About the role

Amazon is building next‑generation robotics systems that combine AI, advanced control, and mechanical design to automate at massive scale. As a Software Development Engineer II you will help create a software framework that enables robots to learn, adapt, and operate safely alongside humans in dynamic environments.

Key responsibilities

• Design critical components of a software framework for generalized dexterous mobile manipulation.
• Develop and integrate cloud and on‑edge inference systems.
• Implement low‑latency communication middleware for real‑time teleoperation.
• Create human‑machine interfaces that support fast, no‑code programming for end‑users.
• Build metrics and data aggregation components.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to rapidly prototype new concepts.
• Document design decisions, performance results, and software validation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of experience.
• Strong knowledge of Python and/or C++ programming.
• Experience with robotics architectures such as ROS or Orocos.
• Familiarity with communication layers like DDS, EtherCAT, or LCM.
• Practice of test‑driven development (TDD) in robotics software.
• Preferred: Master’s degree focused on robotics software frameworks and architectures.
• Preferred: Experience with machine‑learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorRT.
• Preferred: Experience with ROS 2.
