Software Development Engineer – AWS Cryptography (Encryption at Rest)

About the role

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to join the AWS Cryptography organization, focusing on the Encryption at Rest team. You will help build and maintain open‑source encryption tools that protect millions of customers’ data in the cloud.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full software development lifecycle for cryptographic libraries, from design to production deployment.
• Define, prioritize and implement new features that enable internal AWS services to integrate seamlessly with encryption APIs.
• Architect and evolve the framework that supports secure, high‑performance cryptographic operations.
• Develop and maintain open‑source projects on GitHub, respond to public issues and engage with external users.
• Collaborate with senior leaders, principal engineers and security specialists to ensure reliability and compliance.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional software development experience (non‑internship).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent, or comparable practical experience.
• Strong understanding of system performance, memory management and parallel computing.
• Experience with Linux environments and distributed‑system development.
• Passion for building secure, customer‑centric software.

Required skills

• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Rust, Python, Java, C, C++ or C#.
• Knowledge of cryptography concepts and encryption libraries.
• Familiarity with Git/GitHub, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Experience with Linux fundamentals and performance tuning.
